September 1999 ARCARS Meeting


The meeting was called to order with 10 members and guests present.

Motion to accept the August minutes by Edgar, seconded by Rodger (KI8CL), accepted.

TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne reported that our balance stands at $1,248.05.

NET: Rodger KI8CL reported that recently there are more check-ins for the Traders’ Net.

Please remember to check into the weekly ARCARS Net at 8pm Tuesdays.
Also try to support other nets in the area.

NEWSLETTER: The hard copy was not sent out for August, and those minutes will be included in the September Newsletter that should be mailed about 5 days prior to the October meeting.

CLUB STATION:
No problems to report with the equipment. A metal plate has been made for the base of the tower to be bolted to. Non rusting bolts and studs as well as any necessary shims will be procured to attach and align the tower. Paul (KG8OU) and Gene (NA8I) will be working on a crank up mast to be attached to the tower to support the antennas.

Motion to reimburse Mark for the metal plate costing $119.00 by Ed Cook, seconded by Edgar, and approved.


OLD BUSINESS:
The telephone bill for the repeater auto patch has been transferred from KA8UKO to be sent to the Red Cross. Suzanne will see that it is paid up.

Keys to the repeater site are available through several members in case access is required to put the machine on generator power or shut down for any reason.

JOTA (Jamboree On The Air) the JOTA program always falls on the third full weekend in October. It begins on Saturday at 0001 hour’s local time and ends on Sunday at 2359 hours local time. The club has decided to support the 2-day event with two HF stations and a 2-Meter mobile station. We expect to set up at 7am on Saturday and work the station on Sunday from about 9am until 1pm.

 

Saturday team: Suzanne, Dennis, Mark, Rodger, and Paul.

Sunday team: Gene, Paul, Rodger, and Paul. Also Dennis if available.

All members and non-affiliated amateurs are encouraged to come out and help introduce amateur radio to the scouts, and have some fun.

NEW BUSINESS: the American Red Cross as well as the local amateur community supported The Scotty Hanton Marathon. Good job to all that helped!

The parking lot at the southeast of the American Red Cross is to accommodate all the emergency vehicles and trailers. The ARCARS trailer will be moved there as well as soon as we equip it with some necessary gear for basic emergency communications setup.

Elections for club officers will be held at the October meeting. Anyone interested in running for any of the offices is encouraged to contact Dennis Jackson and your petition will be presented to the club prior to the election. Dennisj@bignet.net

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

Edgar, our club librarian has a copy of the Detroit Edison Electrical Hazard Demonstration. He has requested assistance in making additional copies for the library.

Edgar also recommended that we procure at least two hand held radios that can be safely used in a potential gas explosion environment.
