ARCARS
September 9, 2001
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order with 9 members and guests present.
MOTION to accept the August minutes by Andrew, seconded by Kip (KB8WWH), accepted.
TREASURES REPORT:
Suzanne was absent from the meeting, to the best of our knowledge our balance stands at $332.13.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
The Light House special event was held on the Lightship by the USECA group. Andrew was present and reported that over 300 contacts were made and two rigs were used.
DISASTER REPORT:
There were no disasters that required ARCARS assistance reported in August. There were a couple of fires in Chemical Valley, in Ontario. There was also a couple of gas leaks reported…
CLUB STATION:
The club stations are working well with the exception of the 220 MHz packet power supply that should be repaired soon. There was a discussion about moving our 2M packet frequency to 145.090. After a short debate it was decided that we will remain on 145.010 MHz.
NEWSLETTER:
There haven’t been any noteworthy changes to the newsletter in the last 30 days. The minutes continue to be posted on the Newsletter link and notices directing readers are sent via email.
CLUB PROJECT:
Andrew and Dave (KC8PYL) fabricated a metal lock box that contains a 144MHz radio to be used in the Command Center. This nicely designed box features a flip down radio mount, large external speaker, and power supply all neatly secured with a latching lid. The box will allow quick radio access from the Command Center and buy precious time in a disaster relief effort. The lock will keep unauthorized personnel from using the equipment.
OLD BUSINESS:
The JOTA event will be held on the weekend of October 20th through the 22nd. We plan to set up at least one station (preferably two). Dennis (KB8OCG) is to contact the Boy Scout leader to discover how the scouts will be routed to ascertain if two stations will be desirable.
There will be a camping outing at the Lakeport State Park on September 14th through the 16th. A potluck dinner is planned for Saturday the 15th at 5pm. Even though reservations to secure several campsites have already been made we hope that many people will attend. There should be lots of campsites at the park this late in September.
NEW BUSINESS:
A 2M antenna needs to be installed to accommodate the new Command Center radio installation. We believe that we already have a suitable antenna.
Edgar reported that he has a possible source for a service manual for the Motorola 440 radios. This project was shelved due to difficulties in converting the radios to our use.
Elections will be held at the October 7th meeting. If you or anyone you know is interested in serving a term as a club officer, please send an email indicating the office you are interested in to;
dennisj@bignet.net or kb8ocg@arrl.net or kb8ocg@qsl.net and the name will be added to the ballot for the election.DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS
Paul (KG8OU) reported that there is a VK9 station on the HF bands right now and encouraged members to make the contact if they were looking for a rare dx station. John (KC8FRW) reported that he has been working packet stations all over the world through the VE3SKR digi node.
MOTION TO ADJOURN by Edgar, seconded by Andrew.
