ARCARS
November 3, 2001
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order with 12 members and guests present.
MOTION to accept the September minutes by Andrew, seconded by Kurt (KC8SBX), accepted.
TREASURES REPORT:
Suzanne reported that while our balance stands at $332.13, she reminded us that the customary annual donations are due. The donation is $10 per year and covers everyone in your family. The annual donation money is used for incidental expenses that we vote upon their usage at the regular meetings.
MOTION to accept the Treasures Report by Stephen (KC8PGE), seconded by Kurt (KC8SBX), accepted.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
The JOTA (Jamboree On The Air) event at the Silver Trails Scout Camp was a success. Thirty five scouts made contacts utilizing the two HF stations and the packet station that we set up. The contacts were predominantly to domestic stations participating in the JOTA, however several contacts were made to Germany. There was a Traffic Handling demonstration presented by Therese (KC8PEZ) that created interest with the scouts and the other hams present.
The Camp Out that was held in September was a lot of fun. It was hosted by the ladies that worked so hard on Field Day and was held at the Lakeport State Park. The weather was cooperative and we are entertaining the idea to make this an annual event.
DISASTER REPORT:
There were no disasters that required ARCARS assistance reported in September or October. There were hundreds of amateurs called to service in New York and in Washington to support relief efforts following the attacks on 9-11-01. Much of the amateur radio support was used with the American Red Cross Disaster Services team.
CLUB STATION:
The club stations are working well. We are still not sure about the status of the 220 MHz packet power supply that we discussed at the August meeting. There was a discussion about installing a battery backup on that system in case of electric service failure during emergency service.
NEWSLETTER:
The minutes this month are representative of the events and topics over the last two months.
CLUB PROJECT:
The command center 144MHz radio has been installed. It is a self contained unit that is housed in a metal lock box complete with a on board power supply. We do not have an antenna connected to it yet, but there is a spot to mount a mobile antenna on the tower for this purpose.
OLD BUSINESS:
Officer Elections were slated to be held at the October meeting. With all the recent events distracting efforts from these activities a motion was made to move the elections to the December 2nd meeting.
MOTION to hold the annual election of officers to the December meeting by Kurt (KC8SBX), seconded by Suzanne (KB8GFY), approved.
