Meeting Minutes



The meeting was called to order on October 1, 2011 with 14 members and guests present.

MOTION: To accept the previous minutes by Jerry (W8JRY), seconded by Jerrie (KC8YRQ), approved.

TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne reported that last month our balance was $5,254.50. We have ordered radios and that disbursement has been made. That makes our new balance $372.50.

DISASTER REPORT: ARCARS was called out to assist in disaster relief operations after an apartment complex fire in Algonac. The fire was responsible for displacing 10 people. Most people found alternative housing. ARCARS did deliver supplies to a temporary shelter setup. Recognition went out to Edgar (KC8VLV), Brian (KD8PZT), Ken (KD8PZU), and Andrew (KC8SPD).

NET REPORT: Edgar (KC8VLV) was not present at the meeting. The nets have been held every Tuesday evening at 8pm on the ARCARS repeater at 146.800MHz. He recently released a list of topics for the upcoming nets to peak interest.

SPECIAL EVENTS: None covered at this meeting

CLUB STATION: A purchase of four batteries was made. These batteries are a replacement for the station and for the truck. A battery box is being built for the truck and should be compete soon.

The DStar repeater is now operational on frequency 146.690MHz. We are waiting for a cabinet that is being provided by Bob (K8WMW). The cabinet was described at 6’ tall and the repeater will be mounted within.

CLUB PROJECT: We are waiting on additional suggestions on modifying the truck to accommodate ease in field deployment of the amateur equipment.

OLD BUSINESS: Our dates have been picked for our Poker House events. We will have one weekend this coming January, and one next December. We are on a list for additional events if another charity backs out. We can host a maximum of four events in a year.

ELECTION RESULTS: We held our annual election of officers at the October meeting. The lineup; Program Manager - Andrew Wagner (KC8SPD), Assistant Program Manager – William “Brian” Tenniswood (KD8PZT), Treasurer – Suzanne Gregowski (KB8GFY), Secretary – Dennis Jackson (KB8OCG).

NEW BUSINESS: Red Cross once again is requesting that those of us that have not yet completed a background check, to have one completed. The use of the social security number has been a concern in the past and there is a work around at our disposal that does not require the disclosure.

DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS: According to the ARRL we are experiencing robust solar activity. There are reported band openings on 10 meters as well as transoceanic contacts reported on several amateur bands. Get those contacts while the getting is good!

The ARCARS & International Traders Net is held every Tuesday evening at 8pm on the 146.800 K8ARC repeater.

The International Friendship Net is held every Thursday at 9pm on the 145.370-VA3SAR repeater

The Thumb / Mid Michigan Nets are held Monday through Saturday at 9:30pm on the 147.300 repeater.

HF: The Great Lakes Emergency and Traffic Net is held nightly at 8pm on 3.932 kHz
