Meeting Minutes



The meeting was called to order on January 10, 2010 with 19 members and guests present.

MOTION: to accept the November minutes by Russ (KD8RFE), seconded by Angela (KD8HMS), approved.

TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne reported that our balance stands at $484.00. Andrew informed her that he has a check to present to her.

DISASTER REPORT: ARCARS were deployed to assist with the South Park Welding explosion that occurred November 2nd. The explosion resulted when filling an acetylene tank. Russ read a re-cap of the events describing the efforts of ARCARS and the disaster team to assist responders.

NET REPORT: Edgar (KC8VLV) reported checks to the net have been level through the holidays.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Future events planned for 2010 include; The Feast of the St Clair (May 28 & 29th), Field Day (June 26th & 27th), Boat Night (July 16th & 17th), and the Farm Museum event (Aug 27 – 29th). There will be other events supported such as bicycle races, and County Fair and Light Ship special events will be planned later this year.

CLUB STATION: The 146.800 (K8ARC) repeater is operational and working well. A new computer was donated by Andrew (KC8SPD) and software by (KD8FRE). It has been added to the club station.

NEWSLETTER: Our newsletter and web page is normally available at www.qsl.net/arcars and www.bandopening.com/arcars . There is a wealth of information available on the website including the RSS feed.

CLUB PROJECT: The radio room is operational. The truck table project is awaiting acquisition of the materials necessary to complete it.

OLD BUSINESS: The Tri-State Search and Rescue team sent us a thank you note for our participation in their mock disaster exercise held late last summer.

NEW BUSINESS: Andrew announced that the Red Cross Chapter purchased some hand held radios that are to be used by volunteers participating in disaster response or exercises. The radios operate in the business band 136 – 174MHz range, amateur 2M frequencies and Marine channels. Additional units are planned in the future.

ARCARS is to provide email addresses for all the members. There is no cost for the email and it can be with existing email addresses with forwarding services. There will be a document sharing feature that will help keep members informed.

DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS: Paul (KG8OU) reported working Australia on 40M late in the afternoon. Russ (KD8FRE) reported working Slovenia on 40M.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and other info:

The ARCARS & International Traders Net is held every Tuesday evening at 8pm on the 146.800 K8ARC repeater.

The International Friendship Net is held every Thursday at 9pm on the 145.370-VA3SAR repeater

The Thumb / Mid Michigan Nets are held Monday through Saturday at 9:30pm on the 147.300 repeater.

HF: The Great Lakes Emergency and Traffic Net is held nightly at 6pm on 3.932 kHz (temporary time change from the customary 8pm slot)

The AC8W DX Cluster on 144.970 MHz is available. Check it for HF activity.
